Fundraising & Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering allows you to participate in the Johnny Appleseed community and make a lasting impact on the school and your child's education.  We invite you to contact us to learn more.

Library
Volunteers help children select books, and check them in/out during their visit to the library. You will also work with the media assistants to shelve books and assist in other related tasks. The time commitment is usually once a week for 1+ hours in the morning or afternoon. Every effort is made to place volunteers in time slots that coincide with their children's visit the library.

Fundraising
Our biggest committee, Fundraising has many sub-groups that meet throughout the year to work on various events. Volunteers help with daily tallying of magazine orders during the magazine sale.  Our Holiday Elf Shoppe involves the help of volunteers-whether it’s restocking items, helping students shop, or covering the checkout table. During Italian Night parents and teachers take shifts to keep the pasta flowing smoothly while others relax with their children and friends in the cafeteria Many parents assist by sending in baked goods when needed, also. The Book Fair comes to school for a week and is staffed by parents who get to work with their child's class if they so choose. The Lawn Party requires the help of many volunteers-both behind the scenes and the day of the Lawn Party.  Parents staff games, help in the cafeteria, Pot Luck Raffle, setup and cleanup. Whether you have an hour to spare or are able to commit for the entire school year, no amount of time or help is too small.  We are always looking for new ideas and fresh faces
.

Welcome to Johnny Appleseed School!

We hope that your family's time here will be a rewarding and enriching experience. We'd like to take this opportunity to explain a little about the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) at Johnny Appleseed. Our PTO is "open door" and "hands on" — every parent or guardian of a JA student is invited and encouraged to participate.

Our school is truly fortunate to have extremely dedicated and generous parent and staff volunteers, all investing time, energy and funding to make Johnny Appleseed School a wonderful place to learn. We realize that our volunteers' time and resources are important and appreciate whatever each parent can give to our school. Our aim is to give parents the opportunity to become involved with their child's education because so many parents realize how important that involvement is to their child's success in school. Reading to your child's class, helping out with the Book Fair, chaperoning field trips, and participating in teacher-led classroom projects are just some of the activities that are available to parents during the school day.

There are also many ways to get involved and meet other parents outside of the classroom. Led by a representative board, the PTO holds monthly evening meetings, typically the first Tuesday of the month to accommodate work schedules. The meetings provide up-to-date information on JA's fundraising efforts, allow for open discussion, and often address current topics of interest to parents. The PTO has many volunteer opportunities — there is something for everyone who wants to get involved regardless of time constraints. Parent volunteers send the message to their children that they care — about them and about their school. The results of the investment by the PTO in our students and the school is visible not only by walking the halls, but by seeing its effect on our children's education. We look forward to meeting and working with you all!
