Spirit Week is Coming!!



Next week is Spirit Week!!

We hope you are excited for the Last Week of School & Spirit Week!!

This is a fun way to promote some school spirit as the school year winds down. 
Participation is optional on any and all days.

Monday - June 18th 

 
Western Day

Dress in your cowboy or cowgirl country gear. 

Tuesday - June 19th 


Wild Robot Day

Dress up as a robot or an animal from the school-wide read­aloud The Wild Robot. 


Wednesday - June 20th


Heritage Day

Wear something that shows your family's heritage, nationality, and/or culture such as a headpiece, scarf, t-shirt or colors from your country's flag. 

Thursday - June 21st

Dress Up Day

Wear your dress clothes as we help congratulate the 51h graders. Congratulations, Graduates ... Best of Luck in Middle School! 

Friday - June 22nd


Color War Day

Wear as much as you can in the color for your grade! 
Which grade will wear the most of their color? 
(This is the last day of school) 
Have fun & Be Creative!

We cannot run fields day without your help.  There are 14 volunteer slots for the morning shift 8:45 - 11:45 (grades 3-5) and 10 for the afternoon shift 11:45 - 2:45 (grades K-2) You must have a current CORI completed with the office. Wednesday 6/13 will be a great night for a Chorus concert.  Join us in the Gym at 6:00 PM




Friday, June 15th The 4th Graders are happy to present their annual State Fair at 9:30 in the Cafe to their family and friends.  Come to learn all about America!!

Stock up on Gift cards for Summer!!  Script order forms went home yesterday!!


Celebrate the Summer Reading season with an evening at Barnes & Noble. Join us on Friday, June 15th from 4pm to 9pm. This is a perfect time to stock up on books, games, and puzzles for those long summer days! The JA Library will directly benefit from all purchases made by Johnny Appleseed families that evening. Local children’s author, Kate Narita will be joining us and reading her new book, 100 Bugs! A Counting Book. She will be reading at 5:00, 6:00 and 7:00. Make sure you preorder if you would like to take home your own signed copy. A beautiful blend of math and science, perfect for a summertime nature hunt!

Wednesday, May 30th is Joachim Night at the Worcester Bravehearts.  Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets.   If you would still like to make a donation to this family you are welcome to send in a check to JA PTO with a memo note of "Joachim Donation".  We thank you for your support of this family.



5th Grade Survivor day is May 31st!!  Go Team JA!!



Friday, June 1st we welcome back Leominster High seniors who attended Johnny Appleseed when they were in elementary school.  Our students are excited to line the hallways and send off these high school seniors.

As a reminder, Wednesday, June 6th is no longer a half day but a full day!!  It was also just announced June 22nd (the LAST day of school) will now be a half day.




Last call for Boxtops for the year!!  Baggies, Envelopes, Stuck to sheets of paper...  You send them and we will take them.  Every 10 box tops equal $1.00 for our school.  How easy is that?  Please place your child's name as there will be a prize drawing for each grade!!

Lawn Party is coming!!




It's Lawn Party Time!!



In order to make this year’s Lawn Party an outstanding success, we need volunteers like you to help us! Again this year we are offering exciting incentives for adults and students.



  • Every adult volunteer will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win dinner and a movie for 2!!
  • The classroom in each grade with the most volunteers will win a Popsicle party for the entire class!!

Time slots available include
  • 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM
  • 12:00 - 2:00 PM
  • 2:00 - 4:00 PM 
  • 3:00 - 4:00 PM (Clean Up)
Due to the amount of work involved in organizing this event we are not able to contact each volunteer individually unless there is a question or change regarding your elected shift. Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before your elected shift to help ensure a smooth transition between shifts.   Please email lori.keller.ma@gmail.com to sign up!!

We are in the home stretch of the school year and WOW is it busy!!

We are in the middle of Teacher Appreciation week!  If you forgot to send in money to support the PTO's efforts it is not too late.  Feel free to put cash or a check made payable to JA PTO in an envelope labeled "Teacher Appreciation Week" and send it to school with your child.  

Books & Beyond

The Books and Beyond deadline is tomorrow, May 3rd to be eligible to earn a Medal.  Medals will be distributed at our Books and beyond Ceremony on June 8th. 

PTO Elections

The PTO Executive team is happy to welcome Kathy Fink to our team!  Kathy was elected last night as a Co-Volunteer Coordinator working with Michelle Alker.  Other elections included Helena Prentiss & Kiera Ciccone moving to Co-Vice Presidents and Tara DiBona being re-elected to Secretary.  We still have room for 3 more people on our Executive Team.  If you are interested in joining us or finding out more information please email jaschoolpto@gmail.com.



JA is excited to welcome author Jerry Pallotta on June 6th.  Jerry is best known for his "Who would win" books along with over 30 nonfiction alphabet titles.  Order forms for books were sent home last week and are due no later than Monday, May 7th for them to be autographed and brought to school the day of his visit.

Board Openings!!





 This year we have five board members retiring from JA PTO.  They have been a tremendous help to our school and we are sad to see them go.  We are also excited to meet new parents interested in helping out their children’s school!  

The executive board is made up of 6 primary positions; there are currently openings in every position except treasurer.  Each position is shared by two people, helping to spread out the work load.  

The following is a brief explanation of the tasks of each position.

President
  • The President shall preside over all meetings of the PTO and Executive Board. 
  • The President shall prepare agendas for all public and board meetings.
  • The President shall coordinate the work of the PTO Officers and Committees to ensure that all responsibilities are met.
  • The President shall meet with the Principal to coordinate joint efforts throughout the school year. The President also delegates responsibilities as necessary.


Vice-President
  • The Vice President shall act as an aide to the President and take all such action under the direction of the President.
  • The Vice President shall perform the duties of the President in the absence or disability of the President.
  • The Vice President shall help the President effectively delegate responsibilities as necessary.


Recording Secretary
  • The Recording Secretary shall keep an accurate record of all meetings of the general membership and the Executive Board and shall provide minutes via email to the officers and board members.
  • The Recording Secretary shall keep approved PTO minutes in a file.
  • The Recording Secretary shall assist the Corresponding Secretary as needed.


Corresponding Secretary
  • The Corresponding Secretary shall assume responsibility for the creation and distribution of any and all PTO correspondence including, but not limited to, monthly calendars for PTO bulletin board, announcements, facebook and blog posts and thank you notes.
  • Thank you notes shall be distributed in a timely manner from when the event took place. In most cases, one month after the event will serve as a benchmark.
  • The Corresponding Secretary shall act as the Recording Secretary in the absence of the Recording Secretary.


Volunteer Coordinator
  • The Volunteer Coordinator shall organize volunteers for various events.
  • He/She is responsible for maintaining the volunteer database throughout the school year.
  • The Volunteer Coordinator shall interface with Chairs of various events as needed.


Historian
  • The Historian shall take pictures of all PTO events to record for facebook, website and/or school yearbook.
  • He/She shall serve as historian and maintain a record of the school’s acknowledgments, community publications, and noteworthy accomplishments.
  • The Historian shall serve as a liaison between the school and district with regard to publicizing school events.
  • The Historian shall be responsible for the creation of photobook/scrapbook annually to be kept on file at school.

Teacher Appreciation Week


Please note a few changes to the flyer that went out earlier this week.

Due to the half day Wednesday, we will be handing out Potted plants that day.

Thursday will be the day we celebrate with a chocolate fountain, fruit and other fun things to dip!

We need volunteers on the following days:

 Tues 5/1 -7:15am – 8:45am:  Set up, clean up breakfast (2 volunteers needed)

Thur 5/3 - 10:15am – 2:00pm: set up, replenish Chocolate fountain as needed & clean up (2-4 volunteers needed)

Fri 5/4- 10:00am – 2:00pm: set up, replenish, clean up staff luncheon (2-4 volunteers needed)

Other Ways to Help:

Monetary Donations via cash or check, payable to JA PTO to assist in offsetting the cost of the week.


Donation of Baked Goods for Friday’s luncheon. (Please drop off at the school office no later than 10:00am Friday, May 4)

Welcome Back from Vacation


Welcome Back from April Vacation.


Here are a few reminders to start the week off right!!

Don't forget your " What I love about JA cards" in preparation for Teacher Appreciation Week.

The 4th grade is still selling "JA stands for Joachim" Bracelets for $1.00 each.  


Mother Daughter Zumba is from 5:30 - 6:30 this Friday for grades 3-5.  (Note the time change)

The citywide music concert to benefit Joachim is this Friday at 7:00 PM at the high school.

You have until April 30th to get your Community bag from Hannaford's at Twin City Plaza.

We are still collecting items for Lawn Party for our Pot Luck Raffle. Any new or gently used items can be dropped off on the stage.

The next public PTO meeting with elections is Next Tuesday, May 1st.

Next Wednesday, May 2nd is a half day.

May 3rd is the Last day to turn in Books and Beyond sheets.

Lawn Party is May 12th.  We hope to see you all there!!
